Scan AI ("we", "our", or "the app") is a receipt scanning and bill splitting app for iOS. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it is used, and the controls available to you.
1. Information We Collect
Scan AI does not require an account, email address, or any personal information to use. We do not collect analytics, use tracking SDKs, or build user profiles.
The app accesses the following on your device:
- Camera — to photograph receipts for scanning. Used only when you initiate a scan.
- Photo Library — to select existing receipt images. Used only when you choose to import a photo.
Both permissions are requested through standard iOS prompts and can be revoked at any time in your device Settings.
2. How We Use Your Information
Receipt images you capture or select are used solely for the purpose of extracting item names, prices, and totals so you can calculate what you owe. Parsed receipt data (items, prices, people, splits) is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework.
We do not use your data for advertising, marketing, profiling, or any purpose other than providing the app's core functionality.
3. Data Processing & AI
When you scan a receipt, the image is sent to a cloud-based AI service for text recognition and parsing. This processing is performed by Google Gemini AI through our API endpoint.
- Receipt images are transmitted securely over HTTPS.
- Images are processed in real-time and are not stored on our servers.
- The app requires your explicit consent before any receipt data is sent for AI processing. You are prompted to agree before your first scan.
- You can revoke AI processing consent at any time in the app's Settings, which will prevent further data transmission.
4. Third-Party Services
Scan AI integrates with the following third-party services:
- Google Gemini AI — processes receipt images to extract text and item data. Google's privacy policy applies to data processed by their service.
- Apple StoreKit — handles all subscription and purchase transactions. Payment information is managed entirely by Apple and is never accessible to us.
- Apple iTunes API — used only to display our other apps within the app. No personal data is sent or received.
We do not share, sell, or transfer your data to any other third parties.
5. Data Storage & Security
All receipt data, split history, and preferences are stored locally on your device. We do not operate user accounts or cloud storage — there is no server-side database of your information.
Local data includes:
- Scanned receipts, items, prices, and people (SwiftData)
- App preferences: onboarding status, AI consent flag, scan count, and cached subscription status (UserDefaults)
6. Your Rights & Controls
You have full control over your data:
- AI Consent — toggle AI processing consent on or off in Settings at any time.
- Camera & Photo Access — manage permissions in iOS Settings > Scan AI.
- Delete Receipts — delete individual receipts directly within the app.
- Delete All Data — uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data from your device.
7. Children's Privacy
Scan AI is a finance utility app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. Since the app does not require accounts or collect personal data, there is no age-specific data to manage.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
